Evaluating the response of new pore pressure transducers for use in dynamic centrifuge tests

چکیده
Over the past 30 years, the PDCR-81 pore pressure transducer has become a standard instrument for measuring pore pressures in centrifuge experiments. Following the retirement of this transducer and its reduced reliability, it has become vital to find an alternative sensor for use by the geotechnical modelling community. In this paper, the response of the 2Mie pressure transducer is compared against that of a PDCR-81. The sensors were tested in a number of configurations, both with and withoutfilters, and in the presence of fluids with elevated viscosities which are common in dynamic centrifuge experiments. From these tests it appears that subject to appropriate filter selection, the 2Mie transducer produces comparable results to a PDCR-81.

Introduction Estimation of Liquefaction is one of the main objectives in geotechnical engineering. For this purpose, several numerical and experimental methods have been proposed. An important stage to predict the liquefaction is the prediction of excess pore water pressure at a given point. In general, there are two important methods for soil dynamics analyses, fully coupled effective stress ...

Centrifuge modeling of one-step outflow tests were carried out using a 2-m radius geotechnical centrifuge, and the cumulative outflow and transient pore water pressure were measured during the tests at multiple gravity levels. Based on the scaling laws of centrifuge modeling, the measurements generally showed reasonable agreement with prototype data calculated from forward simulations with inpu...

Previous case histories have shown that soil liquefaction severely damaged many structures supported on pile foundations during earthquakes. As a result, evaluating the potential for instability is an important consideration for the safe and resistant design of deep foundation against earthquakes. Underground pipelines are widely applied in the so-called lifeline engineerings. It shows according to seismic surveys that the damage from soil liquefaction to underground pipelines was the most serious, whose failures were mainly in the form of pipeline uplifting. In the present study, dynamic centrifuge model tests were conducted to study the uplifting behaviors of shallow-buried pipeline su...

Capacitive Micro-machined Ultrasonic Transducers (CMUTs) are the ultrasonic devices which produce better features in contrast to piezoelectric transducers. The intrinsic parameter of CMUT varies with the variation in geometrical dimension of the device. The cavity height and the radius of the CMUT with circular membrane is varied in the lumped parallel plate model for its impact on the paramete...
